Leon Bosch and members of I musicanti join the RBC strings for an evening devoted to the extraordinary black French violinist, composer and conductor Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745–1799), the man universally regarded as without peer as a swordsman, who rubbed shoulders with kings and queens, conducted the most highly regarded orchestra of its day and later commanded the first black regiment in Europe. Presented by Christopher Dingle, the first half of the evening is an exploration of Saint-Georges’ life and music-making, and the second half features performances of three Symphonies Concertantes.
Running time approx. two hours
