The famous Hanover Band, directed by Leon Bosch, give the first performance in modern times of Johannes Matthias Sperger’s Cello Concerto, with soloist Sebastian Comberti.
Born in 1750, Johannes Matthias Sperger, an Austrian bassist and prolific composer, produced more than forty symphonies and numerous instrumental concertos, including eighteen for double bass. The work is paired with other famous music of the time, Haydn’s unusual Philosopher symphony, with pairs of cor anglais and horns, Cimarosa’s much-loved Oboe Concerto, with oboist Geoff Coates and one of Mozart’s most attractive and beguiling symphonies, No.29 in A.
This event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.
